Creating engaging speaking and writing practice shouldn’t be time-consuming or overwhelming. That’s why we redesigned the Speakable Activity Builder—to help you work more efficiently, stay organized, and simplify how you set up and grade open response pages.

Whether you're creating a single activity or building out an entire unit, the new tools are designed to save you time and give you more control.

Improved Page Layouts

Activity pages now follow a consistent structure that makes editing easier and faster. Each page is broken into three clear sections:

  • Prompt – Add the question or instruction students will see.
  • Student Response – Choose how students will respond and the feedback they will receive.
  • Grading Settings – Available for Written and Spoken Open Response pages only, this section lets you configure how responses will be evaluated.

This new layout reduces clicks and makes each step of the setup process more intuitive.

Bulk Page Creator

Need to create multiple activities quickly? The new bulk creator allows you to paste or import a list of vocabulary terms, prompts, or questions and instantly generate full pages. Just select your desired page type, import your content, and you're ready to go. This is especially useful for repurposing existing content.

Pass/Fail Criteria Generator

For Written and Spoken Open Response pages, you can now generate pass/fail grading criteria in seconds. Simply:

  • Select the student’s level (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced)
  • Choose your grading focus: Language Use, Correct Answer, or Both
  • Optionally add a custom instruction or context

The system will automatically create consistent and clear criteria that help students understand expectations and give you a faster way to evaluate responses.

Quick Video Tutorials

Need a quick overview of how to setup any page type? Short 2–3 minute tutorial videos are now available for:

These videos walk through how to use each page type effectively and are linked directly inside the Builder.
